| Hanna Instruments HI 98202 Pocket tester for Water Hardness |
|
The HI 98202 (pNA) is a unique hand-held tester
developed for quick and affordable measurement of water
hardness/softness. The hardness of
water is due to the presence of magnesium and calcium. These make washing
difficult, waste soap and create unpleasant scum and scale deposits. Most common household
water softeners use a zeolite system where the calcium and magnesium ions are substituted
on a one-to-one basis with sodium ions from a conditioning resin. Once all the sodium
ions are exhausted from the resin, it has to be regenerated. This is usually determined by estimating the
volume of water that goes through the softener and guessing when to change the resin!
Since the sodium content of feed water is not constant,
the resin is often regenerated too early or too late. This results in extra cost, if the resin is
replaced too early, or risk of damage due to scaling, if it's replaced too late. With the
pNa, you can measure the sodium content of feed water and exit water in seconds. When the resin is exhausted, the
HI 98202 will read the same value at each end, and the time is right for replacing the resin.
The HI 98202 (pNA) is supplied complete with protective cap, calibration screwdriver, batteries
and instructions.
