  Metal halide lamps offer excellent color rendering with a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 65 - 85.

  Metal halide lamps produce light 3 - 5 times as efficiently as incandescent lamps, with less heat, and emit whiter light than incandescent or sodium vapor lamps.

Standard metal halide lamps rely a starting probe (electrode) to initiate an arc via high open circuit voltage. This low voltage starting technique results in a run up time of around four minutes and a restrike time running anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes. 

Pulse start metal halide lamps incorporate a high voltage ignitor. The result is a run up time of two minutes and an 80% lower restrike time of three to four minutes. The efficiency (lumen/watt) of pulse start systems is anywhere from 25% to 50% higher.  Lumen maintenance and CRI increase by up to 30%, compared to probe-start metal halide lamps.
