Calibration solutions are required to ensure that
your meter will perform properly and give you accurate readings. The pH
bulb is a semi-permeable membrane, so over time, the reference solution inside
changes. Calibrating your meter will take this into account, so you will
always get correct measurements.
In general, for reading acidic solutions (below pH
7.0), two point calibration using the 4.0 and 7.0 solutions is recommended.
For alkaline solutions (above pH 7.0) the 7.0 and 10.0 solutions are used for
two point calibration.
A couple of drops of the storage solution should
be put in the cap of your pH meter, to keep the bulb from drying out while in
storage.
The conductivity solution should be matched to the
range of your meter.
